Below are some procedures performed at Peters Endoscopy Center:

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy examines the entire colon for the presence of polyps or other abnormalities. Large polyps and other growths can be removed and biopsied to rule out cancer with this test. This test is performed under conscious sedation, a form of anesthesia that blocks pain but does not put the brain in as deep of a “sleep” as general anesthesia. This form of anesthesia is safer than general anesthesia and can be reversed with IV medicine allowing patients to recover quickly. We recommend all people over the age of 50 have this test done every ten years or every five years if there is a history of colon cancer in your family.

EGD

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD involves inserting a tube with a light and a camera at the tip into the esophagus and into the stomach. Ulcers of the stomach and esophagus can be seen and biopsied to rule out bacterial infection and cancer. Narrowing of the esophagus can be opened up with the EGD as well. EGD is performed under conscious sedation which is safer than general anesthesia and you are able to recover more quickly.

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Flexible Sigmoidoscopy is a minimally invasive screening test used to detect colon cancer and pre-cancerous colon polyps. This test involves the insertion of a small tube with a light and camera at the tip into the rectum and lower colon. If any abnormalities are found, they will be biopsied.

A hemorrhoid is a swollen and inflamed vein in the rectum and anus that causes discomfort and bleeding. Most cases of hemorrhoids do not require surgical intervention. Less severe cases often are treated with an office procedure called rubber-band ligation. A rubber band is placed around the hemorrhoid is sloughed off. More severe hemorrhoids are usually removed in a hospital procedure called hemorrhoidectomy. We have many options for this common issue. Speak to our doctors today to see which is best for you.

FibroScan

FibroScan is a specialized ultrasound machine for your liver. It measures fibrosis (scarring) and steatosis (fatty change) in your liver.

InterStim

InterStim therapy is a reversible therapy used to treat urinary or fecal incontinence. An implantable device is used and sends mild electrical pulses to the sacral nerves. Located near the tailbone, the sacral nerves control the muscles related to urinary or fecal function.
