BETHANY MEDICAL WELCOMES PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
TO SKEET CLUB LOCATION IN HIGH POINT
Melissa Shelton, PA-C offers a full spectrum of primary care and related services
and is currently accepting new patients at 1580 Skeet Club Rd. in High Point
Bethany Medical is excited to welcome Physician Assistant Melissa Shelton to its team of 65 multi-specialty providers currently caring for patients across the Triad region.
Shelton is certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants and completed her studies with a Master of Physicians Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
“I was in the military for 17 years,” Shelton said. She served as a physician assistant in the U.S. Army. About two years ago she transitioned to civilian life and took a job at an urgent care provider but later found the organization emphasized quantity over quality when it came to providers seeing patients.
“One thing I value as a provider is my being blessed, or fortunate, to have the skills and the ability to be able to help people,” Shelton said. Working at Bethany Medical she said she feels appreciated in that providers are afforded the time to sit with their patients, talk to them and listen so that they feel they are being heard.
Being able to explain a patient’s condition to them and discuss healthy ways they can manage their own care and wellness is paramount to both a healthier economy and a healthier society, she said. The high cost of health care and the high rates of chronic illness in the U.S. could both be drastically reduced through education.
“I am very big on preventative medicine. I am all about educating people about their health,” Shelton said. “A lot of our health costs and medical issues could really be solved if people had that education.”
Another area of focus for her is women’s health, particularly in younger segments. Shelton mentored younger women both in the military and in college and knows first-hand the importance of guidance in a young woman’s life, pertaining to all facets of wellness from physical health and fitness to mental health and planning for one’s future.
Don Bulla, Senior Vice President of Bethany Medical, praised Shelton’s commitment to her patients.
“Melissa’s example of caring for her patients beyond their immediate medical needs embodies everything we stand for at Bethany Medical. Young people today need to know they are cared for, and what’s more, they are more likely to excel when they see people who look like them in positions of success,” Bulla said.
Shelton is currently accepting new patients at the Bethany Medical location at 1580 Skeet Club Rd. in High Point.
